Ancient Clan Festival - First Impressions

Saiel - Friday Apr 30, 2004 11:00 pm
Post subject: First Impressions
So I'm wondering,

What were everyone's first impressions of other people?

For instance, when I first "met" Lady, I had her age totally wrong...and I imagined her as a sort of emo-ish, angsty writer with black-rimmed glasses who read fantasy novels. xd.gif

I thought Cammy was a girl for quite some time after he joined...

And I remember really disliking Vegi and Pimpy at first, (they were associated in my mind for some reason...I think they joined right at the same time or something,)...I think because there was some kind of 17+ babes forum going on, and I thought them perves for entering...something to that effect.

So...anyone else?

It's kindof strange but I never really get first impressions... Either that or I always get the same first impressions so that it seems like I don't get them...

It would seem that we've come full circle, no?

I remember some things, small things. Nothing, really.

My memory of that time is scattered and incomplete, an enourmous puzzle strewn about an unclean room. It was a very awkward time for me, so much chaos and confusion, though many of the people I met on this forum had a devestating impact on me at the time.

Most of the people I would care to remember are no longer here, and those that remain are not the same people I befriended. It's inevitable, I suppose, that we fall out of touch. sight. reach.—it is not time that changes people, rather, it is the changing of people that pushes time steadily forward.

I regret a lot of what I said back then, and I regret even more what I didn't say. People as a form of entertainment? amusment? Pathetic. I tend to forget this, this concept that other people are truly that—people—rather than self-sufficient robots or elaborate toys.

I'm rambling. I've been writing for hours.

Oh, and I do remember thinking that Cloud was a girl. Or maybe that he wanted to be. Or maybe I made that up for the sake of this post.

Here's a cheerful emote for those of you that found any of this offensve. --> icon_smile2.gif See? Happy. It's all good.

That’s rather cold and unwarranted.

I couldn’t possibly assign like or dislike to you as of current day, due to what your own post mentioned—we’re not the same people we once were.

I have many clear memories…too many, possibly, to a point where I wonder what was I thinking, investing so much life in this board…and I know just as clearly who affected me the most, whose impressions were lasting and golden.

And maybe those people never knew what they truly meant to me, or they do and they’re simply overwhelmed by indifference.

But at least I know who impacted me the most. Who never completely left my mind. Due to one reason or another, their memory maintained mental clarity.

So that does sting a bit. You don’t have to care, but I still do. If nothing else, then at least about preserving the positive memories I can still recall. They’ll fade eventually, just like the relationship itself.

But maybe so long as a single memory survives, some small fraction of that once-realized contentment can remain.
For someone.

We've all grown up and out in different ways, so I suppose it's only natural for the screens of recollection we view the past through to be varied. For one person's positives to be another's negatives, and vice versa.

Maybe I'm just too optimistic.

Another lesson, another chance to grow up a bit.

You forgot to read.

I don't want to do this again. I would prefer not to revisit the emotional wreckage that defaces the coastline of this beautful island called self-preservation.

Maybe everything I've said is a lie. Maybe I'm bitter. Maybe I need to forget.

Maybe—it must be.

Yeah, so I'm still actually really new to this whole internet thing (I've only had access to the net for about a year-and-a-half now, not very long, eh?). I use to be able to get online every now and then - like at friends houses and stuff - but that always had a specific purpose, I was never able to just wander around.

To show my naivety about the web; here's the process of what led me to join AC.

1. I own my own, very basic, website w/ two of my friends; it has a PHPBB forum as well and I wanted to get a new av.

2. I did a search for FF:AC av's and I found two of Dubird's (which are friggen amazing, I must say).

3. I wanted to ask her if I could download them and use them (I was just trying to be polite) and I discovered that you guys had a forum, so I joined to ask her for permission.

4. I thought it was really cool that you guys used PHPBB, too!!! I was like, "WOW!!" (<-- naivety); I had no idea that so many others did.

5. You guys had a cool site with similar interests to myself, so I stayed.

First impression: I felt like I moved to a new city; there was this whole aura of 'I am the new guy on the street' and everyone else has been here. You guys had history (more than I originally thought) and had relationships; I did my best to respect the fact that I was (and still am) a noob. I joined in the discussions where I knew and had interest in the topic; and I was in awe of the topics that represented the relationships and history of the people here at AC.

I was grown up with a very 'respect your elders' background and, just as an example, Saiel and DX, you're both younger than me; but on AC, it's the other way around. I felt like all of the vets here at AC respected that attitude and I appreciated that. I really want to be a part of the history at AC, and I'm trying to contribute as much as I know how to (hence - Iron Dragon). I know I'll never be able to replace the history that has been; but new events always continue to unfold in life. People come and go, and everyone has to move forward or else they'll get stuck in The Melancholy and the Infinite Sadness.

To me, when I joined, AC represented the something that I am striving to achieve with my website. My first impression was that AC was a great place.

I was right. icon21.gif

You forgot to read.

After long enough, it's easy to learn to ignore cynical additives such as a lone smilie attempting to deflect any negative feedback flung your way.

But if all of your memories are so grotesquely unpleasant, then maybe there is no point.

I would have tried, though. I don't particularly enjoy scrapping that great an area from my subconscious.

But if you already have, I see no reason not to anymore.

Althogh (**Warning Repatitve Statement---->) I've only been here since yesterday, My first impression of the Site is cool.

Sledge he is cool, Because he is a fellow chris.

So far i have been judging people based on avs / sigs trying to figure them out, and so far it has bene harder to tell how old people are than what sex they may be.

I find it iteressting in the fact that I would think most people in a place like this would be at least my age of 22 but I am wrong in the fact that I have found many younger people here still in school. This is cool causr it brings back my fond memories of when I was in High School bawling.gif sometimes i wish i could go back and do it again just for the hell of it.

but enough of my jibber jabber my first impression of most every one and the site it self is excelent and in the future I hope to give off a good impretion to those who are here and to those who may come.

PlaneShaper: i'm responsible for you signing up here?....o.@......

anyhoo, i don't remember my first impressions....i was just getting into Gundam Wing and i stumbled across this from DBG when it was still in the 'white' old-skool stage.....it was right at the end of the Ling war.....b/c i remember asking what the hell all the Ling stuff was about....*LOL*.....i joined b/c someone made a comment about GW and i wanted to reply...then, i saw that most people had these neat sig images and i wanted one.....which was really hokey, but whatever....it started me on the road to where i am today.....^_^.....

i can say honestly that i've met some good people here....i've met some sucky people here....i've also met some people here that were good for a time and i became good friends with, but later turned out to be sucky.....i've had that happen to me in several online places, not just AC.....so i have become rather cyncal over the years....i'm not going to drop my friends that i have made, but i'm very wary about trying to make new ones ya know?.....anyways, that's my ramble for now....
