Post subject: Journal Entry #1
(I'm the teacher's aid for the Creative Writing class at my school this
semester...and as we did when I was a Sophomore, they have journals they must
write in every day, for just five minutes. Loving to write, I chose to write
during class time along with them, on whatever the topic of the day was.
However, since I'm an aid, and not subject to all the binding rules of the
class, I can take my own approach to any entry I choose. So here's number one~)
Topic: What makes a poem good or bad?
Just because you wrote
a poem, that does not make you a poet. I hate seeing these people who will read
somebody's horrible work and tell them
it's the best thing they've ever read. That doesn't help the person one bit--it
gives them a false sense of security. Now they will continue their terrible
spree of bad writing, bringing misery to all who must critique it. Maybe that's
slightly too harsh...maybe these people don't know a bad poem when they see one.
The color green

I will never be seen
Wearing the color green
There. That
is a bad poem. If you ever read anything similar to the above lines, run away
quickly before you, too, inflate that non-poet's silly little head.
(This one makes me seem arrogant...but really, I'm so tired of
someone writing a poem like the one above and then saying, 'What do you think??'
in this excited little voice...and it's just impossible to tell them how much it
sucks...)
