This is basically a story I started...obviously, divided into diary entries. This is the first. It's a shame that AC skews multiple spaces sweatdrop2.gif

Dear diary:

New Year's Eve passed by without incident.

I stood guard at night, while everyone was sleep, which was natural; it was New Year's Eve, and already 9 PM.

I managed to procure myself a drink called 'Coca-Cola' from the head captain, to celebrate the new year. It turns out that it used to be considered a delicacy, centuries ago. It tasted quite different from today's drinks (essentially watered down plant extracts). It was sweet and slightly syrupy, and the drink bubbled of carbonation. I wonder, sometimes, about the people who used to drink it...What were they like?

My breeding partner kissed my lips late last night. Usually this would signal a transition into a sexual situation, but it ended where it begain. All she did was look me in the eyes and smile. I couldn't think to ask anything about the intent, at the time. All I felt was an odd sort of confusion. I felt a weird feeling growing inside me....it felt warm...and it had a sort of joyful tingle.
Dear god...what is this strange feeling that I have?

Question: Is this future a technically advanced one or has it plunged back down to middle age type settings?

Age is of no concern. It's just measuring how much closer you are to death (which is, of course, for the weak).

I'm not usually a fan of sci-fi type writing...but I like it so far. You did a great job of making him sound stoic...almost mechanically dispassionate.

(Preface: By 3014, the word 'queer' has returned to its original meaning. Its use as slang has been lost.)

January 4, 3014

Dear diary:

No duty today. I decided to review a couple NRS [New Resistance Squadron] tactical manuals, and exercise by running through the uninhabited S.E. quadrant in full armor.
The encasing armor made running a strenuous exercise, which compelled me to rest mid-way.

I seated myself a large rock nearby, realizing that sitting on the ground outdoors is unwise. The flak and shrapnel strewn and occasionally partially buried posed a significant hazard. A man in my unit once spent 4 days in the NRS infirmary and 14 days in the quarantine after shrapnel had embedded itself into his skin. The NRS 117 manual dictates that untreated shrapnel, flak, and other remnant shards are possible carriers of diseases like Black Fever.

I thought of my partner, as I returned to my running. I felt that same, queer feeling inside when I thought of her kiss. I still don't understand either the feeling, or the kiss.

even though the human nature is very different...i'm reminded of Brave New World by Aldous Huxely...

Indeed. Very good book. I reminded myself of Brave New World too, even ask Holly happy.gif O brave new world!

Mild spoiler

The worlds are similar in the manner of technology and efficiency, but have an unnatural human mentality

the fact that you're attatced to a breeding partner is kinda surprising...wouldn't everyone just...belong to everyone else?

There isn't necessarily a strong focus on breeding as fast as you can. Besides, it gives some gene predictability

Edit: P.S. Maybe you shouldn't bug me with questions that may be answered in later entries, eh? sweatdrop2.gif
