Does anyone know a good ISP that is fast enough for someone to play online and download stuff at a rerasonable speed, but still cheap and not like 20 30 bucks?

My uncle said Net Zero but that's dail-up and I'm not sure that is very fast.

i'd recommend dsl or cable for online gaming and download speeds. all the dial up accounts with "Accelerated download speeds" are generally using a compression program that only speeds up graphics like jpg, gif, etc. (look at the small print for more info) other than that, if you try to download a 20 mb file, it'll download just as slow as a regular dial up account.

Funny thing, I got a job.. but now I dont have much time to do teh things that made me want to get a job to begin with

Ya what Sledgestone said is true. You’re better off getting dsl or Cable. If you currently have dialup and you want to speed up your downloads get flash get. It’s a multi-threaded downloader. In short terms it takes your 56k and uses all possible openings to download at the max 54k download speed. So what would take you 2 hours normally downloading would probably take you 1 or 1 1/2.

Fifteen hours a week: not enough time to keep you out of trouble, and just enough money to get into it. :p

I want a job. But I don't think I'd be able to do it right. When I get nervous I kinda start to mess up. x_x

I did want to work at Tac Bell with some of my friends but they weren't hiring. They are builing a Super Walmart or something around here so in October I'll put in an application.

But for cable or DSl don't you need a modem? I have know idea how a cable wire connects to a computer. Is a modem one of those black boxes that you can use for Halo or something? My friends are Halo 2 addicts and they talk about pulling a wire out of their modem and putting it back in for some cheat. Plus aren't modems like 200 bucks? Yeah these are noob questions, because I don't know much about cable and DSL.

Well, for cable, you wouldn't need the dial-up modem. You'd need to get a cable modem.. (which are external) they cost like .. 50-100 dollars, depending on brand and such.

The internet comes in through a standard coaxial cable (like the kind that goes to your TV, so you can get cable channels) and hooks up to the back of the cable modem. From there, the modem will have either USB or LAN ports so you can hook it up to your computer that way.

If you wanted to share your internet with several computers at your home, you'd have to set up a network. In which case you'd need to get a router or a switch.

I'm sure you probably have a friend or two that could help you with setting up something like that.

most often you can call up the company and they'll answer all your questions, just make sure you ask them. When my family got broadband the modem was free as part of a deal to get dsl....so it all varies.

Oh, thanks! :D If I was able to get Yahoo DSL I could have gotten a modem thing for free, but since it's not i this area... -_-
