What OS do you guys like the most and what do you use it for? Its ok to choose more then one.

I happen to like Win98/2k and Also Linux Distro "Ubuntu" and "Linspire (lindows)"

I use Windows 2k for some basic server tests and programming and I use the linux computers for everyday things like playing games and viewing the web. Same goes for my win98 pc. I also use Linux for my router and firewall  .

Linux is my favorite, the only reason that I don't hate Micro$h4ft is because of MS-DOS Batch, and the fact that they make Halo. My favorite is the live Knoppix distro, because you can run it without needing to re-install Windows afterwrads.

Ahh shugga I forgot to add Sun OS lol. Theres way to many OS's out there now >.<.

Ya Thats why I like Win98. I love batch and the ability to control how much memory each program uses. XP has that damn memory leak.

MAC's run off of a Unix kernal, which means that they are basically a large distro of *nix, so if you did like all linux distros, then there is really no reason to dislike MAC, well, the old MACs sucked ass, but the new ones are great for video editing, since they are so fast. And, unless you use virtual PC there are no viruses. Virtual PC allows for running many PC products on a MAC.

Yes but its modifyed to there liking. I don't like how they took out alot of usefull funtions just for there GUI. Im more for Linux man since it's open source (open source unix). If i was to pick a true *nix OS id go with a openBSD or FreeBSD. But Like I said Macs are good for graphics but not for programming.

Good point, free is good. But, pay has its benefits, such as better customer support. At any rate, in my opinion, the reason that I like Mac OS X, is that they have better customer support, meaning that I don't need to use e-mail, the computers that you can buy from them (mainly Mac G5) are powerful and faster than most other off-the-shelf computer models, and they are great for movie editing and burning, since they support more hardware than most of the free Linux Distros, though for a low cost you can get a Linux that supports about the same. Also, there are more games for Mac than most Linux distros.

Ya good point, you do get good support when you buy from Mac. My friend gets loads of support for his Mac systems. I still dont like using Mac but o well lol. Linux is free/Donation so there support is very little and sometimes none. But thats what there forums are for ;). I tend to get my answers faster on forums then spending time on the phone trying to lern spanish.

Yes Mac are planning to use intel chips. I think its a bad idea, but it looks like Mac wants to make a major jump past Micro$oft so its a good idea on there part. To bad it wasnt powed by AMD processor  then maby Id think about getting a Mac.

My college dosnt have a lab but it does have about 5 high end Mac computers for the Media people. The rest of the computers are Open *nix boxes and windows xp/2k/3k
