.... a virus giver ?

Whenever I've tried to install it, I either find a lot of spyware on my computer or my windows gives me a lotta errors and problems. Like my system would hang and what not. Even now when I re-installed it, in-tune with the current OS I have, it still did the same. How do I watch movie trailers or slippers' video for that matter if the freaking program corrupts my system :x !!!! X'D

Do you guys experience problems like this ?

you're running windows 98 right? i hated quicktime on windows 95 or 98 it always acted like a bastard for me. and win 98 was at the controversy of microsoft purposefully screwing up competitor's products, netscape and apple software always crashed or ran like crap. i haven't had any problems with quicktime on XP at all tho. it runs pretty good actually.

Win 98 YEAH 0_o ....

DAMNIT MICROSOFT ! Curses ! *e-pokes Gates between the eyes when he's not got his glasses on while he's brushing his teeth*

But, what can be done, as a replacement or solution to this (like another program or something). Get XP ? My system runs on god knows what since it's very low on resources - 128 Mb Ram, 1.0B Ghz, 80 GB Hard-disk. I tried putting on Win 2000 but that couldn't work because of my low processor speed. I don't think XP would too *shrugs*

there isn't any other program that will play quicktime files except for the quicktime player. so there isn't much you can do about it except for upgrading your system. (i'd love to see another program run quicktime, but i haven't come across any.)

i have a 500mhz 128mb ram computer running win xp ok. its a slow ass computer, but it runs effeciently considering i used to have to re-install win 98 on it twice a year. :p

(checks something)
yep, my crappy computer is running just above the minimum requirements for the xp professional i have installed on it. X'D

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/upgrading/sysreqs.mspx

its seems odd that win 2000 wouldn't work on your system tho.. its requirements are less than xp. maybe it was having a compatability problem. *shrug*

http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/professional/evaluation/sysreqs/default.asp

btw, i noticed they recommend intel or amd cpus. are you running either one of those?

I run on an assembled motherboard actually and I remember it had a gay name to it X'D. You think maybe because my hard-disk has already developed bad sectors in 2 months of my hard-drive change, that it might prove problematic for Win 2000 or XP to work ? My computer chaps flatly refused to install the latter, saying it just wouldn't work. Bums.

What the hell ?! I qualify for both 2000 and XP *mouth agape*

*shrugs* you can always try taking out your current hard drive, then put in an old one and try installing XP. XP requires you to reformat your entire harddrive in NTFS format (i think thats what it was), it won't upgrade win 98, it'll have to completely delete it, hence a fresh hard drive.

if XP installs correctly and runs, then you know your system can handle it and you can put your other harddrive back in as a slave drive so you can still access all your files.

if the XP installation fails and screws everything up, take out that hard drive and put the one with all your stuff back in and everything will load as normal.

You don't HAVE to install it to NTFS, but the benefits are great. I remember having to manually convert my drives using a cmd command before from FAT32, and i didn't lose any data. Though i suspect it created instability.

Luckily though I hear Microsoft is releasing the new WinFS as a patch to XP so you could go for that.

(this is a little out of the ordinary) but, you can go to google, search knoppix download, and download the free knoppix version of linux which boots off the cd and has a program called wine on it that opens excecutables, so then you cdan open the quicktime launcher.

btw, 98 is way better than xp.

:wtf: sure.. and the fact that microsoft stopped supporting it or releasing security upgrades for it is of no concern. besides, compared to xp, win 98 is unstable. i had win 98 for years and i always had to reformat/reinstall twice a year. i got win xp professional, installed it once and its still fine two years later. the only thing i miss from win 98 is playing my classic dos games, but there are emulators to take care of that.

WHAT? I had 98 for 7 freekin years, 4 on a broadband connection, and as long as I kept Norton anti-virus there was no problem, but within 4 days of xp my computer got real screwed up, with spyware and adware, and in one month I had to re-install windows like 9 times, then I got a new computer. It lasted for a month. So I dumpted it and got linux. Linux kicks ass.

Slippers, it was like the first time I downloaded the program and it happened to give me errors hehe .. nasty I say !

Aaaaanyway, last Sunday my power supply got whacked and he took a week to fix it, only to realize that the real reason for my computer not coming on is not what he thought it was, but my brand new shining hard-disk, say 3 months old. My hard-disk failed and he replaced it, but I lost all my files - mum's files, etc etc. This evening he got the new hard-disk home and I told him to give me XP, and here I am, avec le XP operating system ^_^ ... thanks guys, for all the guidance and in a way, I'm glad my hard-disk crashed hehe X'D ! Plus, I'm going to get myself Quicktime now, sweeeeeeeeet ^___^

It's real smooth, wow, I can't complain even though the system runs slow with my configuration. Speaking of which, one of my pals, ages back told me that he could make his own desktop and program bars and stuff like that, customizing it and he had XP at the time. Is it possible ?

i know you can change the color themes, but i never tried customizing it more than that.

(edits) i forgot to reply to this post:

i'll agree with you about that.. linux does kick ass. :p *rubs AC's red hat*

i had mandrake installed for a while on a home computer, that OS was sweet.. but the computer it was on was crap. one day i'll get a spare and put linux back on one. either that or i'll get so pissed off at microsoft i'll put linux on this one... i'd like wine to be a bit more stable first tho, that and i'd like to see how well they'll handle windows vista programs.

You know, there are marvolous things called live linuxes (like knoppix) that boot strait off the cd with 256 mb of ram, without touching the harddrive. Take the cd out, back to windows!

btw, exactly how long was slippers gone?

Dunno, I didn't see you post ^_^ hehe .... I assumed you were playing games and finishing them !

I was right in the middle of that thing, happened on the 26th, yup Bombay/Mumbai it was. I left work at 2 in the afternoon on Tues and reached home at 6 pm the next day, on the 27th. Walked for hours in knee-high and most of the times chest-high waters, pitiful scene around I tell you. Cars floating about, not working, reminded me of War Of The Worlds. Luckily for me I was close to a cousin's place and I could stay the night at her place, and left the next morning. Cellular networks were jammed as well as the normal telephone lines, the city was screwed so bad. Our drainage system is over a century old 0_o ... in just 4 hours of HEAVY rain coupled with high-tides during that time frame, the city was jammed on the 26th.
