Reputation is a neat and relatively new feature at Ancient Clan. It allows us to judge each others's posting habits and comments.

Overall it effects nothing, but If you feel like giving some 'props' or 'kudos' for someone's good comment, or want to tell someone to shape up their act; This is a nice little way to do it anonymously.

When you feel the urge to do so all you need to do is click the scale button ("Add to Reputation") on the bottom left-hand side and your browser should open up a new little window. From that window you can select to approve or disapprove of the post you're judging, along with a short comment field to say why.

Once you've racked up enough reputation points, the amount of bubble you have will grow. Like Sledge's. -- There are also different ranks of reputation, like with post-counts.

-----
You're probably wondering why I placed this into the Rants/raves-- Well, It's because I got my first disapproval. -- And whoever the heck decided that my comment was no-good didn't bother to add a comment.

So I'm sitting here wondering if I said something wrong, or if someone was just playing around with the feature. -- And It really ticks me off. lol.

Basically what it comes down to is, If you're going to add to someone's reputation, especially if it's disapproving, be sure to add a comment WHY.

Please.

---
Edit- You can check out your reputation and which posts you got judged on by looking in your User CP. It should be right under your subscribed forums.

if blue dots mean bad, then i got more of those than good X'D.

I really don't care about it, it can stay at one dot forever, I dont feel the need to prove myself to anyone, and if they dont like what I have to say.. oh well.

EDIT: on a side note it seems if you click the topic when u were given rep on it loads up at the post in which they gave you rep for. in that case I got 2 baddies for the same reply, in which I said nothing deserving of a demerit X'D

Same as DX--who cares? If someone disagrees with something you say, they should have enough respect, and balls, to tell you so to your face. And even then, it shouldn't control your thoughts...opinions vary, and always will.

I know plenty of people willing to down my meter simply because they dislike me.

If I ever give someone a bad mark, ill be sure to leave who did it in the comment. if they want to drag my rep down more, so be it. I do recall this same feature back in the UBB days of GT, it became a huge debacle in which we all just dragged each other down on purpose X'D! not only that, people are too lazy to use the good in it anyways.

I tend to say hurtful things ^_~ so I kinda want to know if I go overboard.. I don't want people to freak out at me.

I don't care if people disagree with my views. The reputation feature isn't particularly for saying if your views are right or not. It -should- reflect a person's posting habits. Spelling, Unique replies/topics (not posting something that's already been posted), little things like that.

ah but it never does... it never does. it is always used "to be better than others"

I honestly dont think members shoudl beable to rate other members. rep points should be left to the mods and admins.

Spelling, Unique replies/topics (not posting something that's already been posted), little things like that.this is basically what the reputation system is for. we still haven't implimented any major functionality with the reputation system yet. you don't get any new features with a higher reputation, nor do you lose anything with a lower reputation. theoretically we could set up extra privledges, abilities, picture uploads, custom user ranks, etc. etc. based on a members reputation. but we don't. as for ppl leaving negative buffs on members without an explanation... eh, we can easily moderate all reputation points, comments, negative/positive buffs, etc. etc. if someone is found to be repeatedly hitting the same member over and over we can always remove reputation abilities from that member. besides, if we ever impliment a new reputation system with some new extra features i always have the handy button that says: reset all members to (insert number here) reputation. :p

Don't you ever call that abomination that you were a member of GT. that was some twisted f'ed up butcher job by someone else. :p

I never noticed the green blob, i saw the weigh scales tho.

I noticed it on day one ^_~ lol, I didn't mess around with it much though. -- and I asked you about it a good while before you started screwing around with it.. or atleast before your blob bar grew. ^_^

btw, just so everyone knows, here are a couple of the settings currently enabled (as of tonight):

How many reputation clicks can a user give over each 24 hour period? = 5

How many different users must you give reputation to before you can hit the same person again? = 10
If you get any error messages giving out reputation points, this is most likely the reason. and also, don't worry about some newb registering and screwing everyone over with rep hits. theres a minimum post count enabled for the reputation system. :p

click "User CP" at the top of the screen and "latest reputation recieved" table should be in the center On clicking "User CP", I didn't find "latest reputation received" anywhere actually
There're two tables, one on top and the other to the left. Top table contains - User CP, Faq, Member list, Calendar, New Posts ... etc
And there's another table under that on "New Subscription Threads", which's empty

Boy, I need to learn about the functions and tools available for use out here ^_^:

there are 3 reputation dots. one = bad, one = good. one = null. the null one effects users who are not eligable to alter other's reputation points for reasons such as: their own reputation isn't high enough, not enough post count, newb, etc. on a side note, i'm still messing with these settings.

its all good. and don't take the reputation thing all too seriously. some of it can be considered as constructive criticism. while others might be a blatent attempt to piss you off. as for the latter, you can send me a pm and i'll look at the reputation remark. if it can be considered a flame, i'll warn the user that sent it and delete the reputation hit.

as for anonyminity.. admins are not going to tell you who sent what reputation remarks. as it is now it is to be used as a tool to help others and to give each other praise for contributing to the community. we may tweek things from time to time with it as things are not yet solid, but once we do we'll add a note about 'reputation rules' to the main "Rules! Read This before posting! (http://forums.ancientclan.com/announcement.php?f=3&announcementid=1)" announcement.

simple rules such as: if you leave a negative reputation mark on another member, you must state a comment - repeat offenders would loose reputation altering abilities. or.. if you flame a member with a reputation comment thinking its completely anonymous, you risk being banned by an admin. (flaming and inciting flaming is not tolerated). things like that..

members can still send you reputation hits about your spelling or punctuation as long as they state thats what its for. but if they insult you, then yes, that'd be pretty messed up and i'd look into it. O_o

as for the reputation feature as a whole, i don't think many ppl will even use it or pay much attention to it. theres quite a few vbulletin features that get overlooked and underused. (like topic rating, forum subscriptions and making calendar events)

i never use that "new posts" link although it would be a helluva lot easier. X'D i usually log in for a couple minutes in the mornings and when i log back in later in the day i loose all my previous "new post" indicators so i end up getting screwed going thru all the forums anyway. :p

That could b true. I bettr take this thing seriously...what's flaming?

Sledgstone
December 27th, 2004, 07:22 PM
nobody has missused the reputation system as of yet.. as for flaming..

Flaming:

1) To insult or criticize provokingly, as on a computer network.
2) An insulting criticism or remark meant to incite anger, as on a computer network.

Basically it means being an ass.

4. No flaming! This is a big no-no. Flames are immature and a real annoyiance to the rest of us. If you have a problem with another member, please take it to PMs or somewhere else. Don't fight it out here. You can ask for someone to moderate if you need to, but it still needs to be dealt with privately.we do not tolerate flaming or inciting flames.

also, me make it a point to not discuss banned members as they are not here to participate in the conversation or defend themselves for whichever reason. as for why the two of them were banned, we are under no obligation to state why or explain our actions. but for the sake or inquiring minds i will say: yes, hammy was flaming and inciting flames. kagome is so hot on the other hand spoke badly to an admin. another thing that is not tolerated.

btw, nobody take this post personally. i'm not targeting this response to anyone, i'm just stating the facts. :p
