Has anyone heard of skype before? i read about it in the local paper here two weeks ago and found it pretty interesting. i haven't downloaded or tested it yet, but it works like an instant message program. instead of typing to each other tho, you use a headset or mic/speaker combo. it'll let you call other skype users completely free, but if you want to call actual phone numbers then there is a charge. the article i read gave it huge reviews and said its great for international calls.. that and the quality of the connection over broadband was significantly greater than standard phone services.

anyway, i thought i'd share this info because we were thinking about installing it to talk to ac members. :meh:

i used to have skype, but no i knew ever used it so i uninstalled it...

you know you could also maybe just host a teamspeak or ventrillo server :-P

I have a friend who's parents use it to talk to there fellow RPG players. It works really well, and it's awsome for talking to people who live across the US. Like I can sit there and play Diablo with someone in Cali and talk to them the whole time. It would be awsome if we all could install it so that we could talk to each other more often.

i haven't tried those, but the installation and account creation only took me a couple minutes. it looks pretty straightforward too. i would have already talked to dubie on it if i had my mic hooked up a couple days ago. :p

How much does a headset cost? There's no point me getting it without it.

Uhhh...it depends really on how good of one you get...I think they run about $50 or so.

$50? what are you smoking...they sell them for like $10 at any electronics store...i got 1 from EB

the $10 ones really aren't that good.....my set costs $30 and it's got the mic as well....it's a plantronics, and i got it a office depot....it's not the best in the world, but it works pretty good......the reason i still use them is that they're comfortable....i like headphones that fit over my ears, but not to many of them are really comfortable.....

I tried it with Eppy and it works pretty damn well.

The head-set that I have right now was borrowed from a pal of mine and it makes my head hurt. I'm getting meself an account as we speak ^_^

EDIT : Awww man, I have Win 98 and this requires a minimum of 2000/XP platforms. I qualify for the other requirements although -_-; .... I installed it knowing of the shortcomings in my system, and it doesn't work. Sorry guys ...

the quality of the call is pretty damn impressive. its clearer than cell phones and it sounds like the person is right next to you. O_O

i'm going to try to free up some time again this upcoming weekend for anyone that would like to talk. i can't promise a long convo, and i have a tendancy of using profanity constantly.. ^_^;
