Akira is one of the most acclaimed anime series out there to date. It features amazing animation along with an interesting plot. I'll be reviewing the story, the characters, the animation and the music and sound effects.
First of all I'll review the wonderful plot of Akira. It's been years since world war three occurred and Tokyo had to be rebuilt as Neo Tokyo. It was said that a being known as "Akira" had destroyed Tokyo in a massive explosion. Years after a boy named Kaneda and his best friend Tetsuo along with their biker gang got caught up with the military. They took away Tetsuo as he was in bad condition and began giving him drugs that they believed would give him physic abilities. He soon managed to utilize these abilities and rampaged the city of Neo Tokyo as he was trying to find the grave of Akira to obtain even more power. I don't want to spoil the rest of the movie so all I will say is that it has a very good plot to it that most people will enjoy.
There aren't many important characters to comment on. The main character is Kaneda. He is the leader of a biker gang and grew up in an orphanage. Kaneda's best friend is Tetsuo. They both grew up together in the same orphanage and have been friends for many years. Tetsuo has always felt that Kaneda was too much of a leader and was jealous of him a lot of the time. Like I said there aren't many main characters except for these two, but the conflict between them can make up for the lack of main characters in this anime.
Like I mentioned before this anime has simply superb animation. Its mostly crystal clear and has very vivid and detailed environments. The blood in this anime is very well done and almost looks real. Like some anime the animation was done all digitally so there are no flaws. Not much more to say about its animation.
The soundtrack is very clear and most songs usually fit the mood but aren't anything you'll want to listen to for a long time. The sound effects are very nice such as bodies being ripped apart, the motor cycles sounded very real. The sound effects were generally very good.
Overall this anime is awesome. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes anime.
